WVSU STUDENT COUNCIL SLAMS FIRST LADY’S INCLUSION IN FACULTY

/ 8 August 2022

THE UNIVERSITY Student Council of the Western Visayas State University denounced the inclusion of First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos in the school’s College of Law faculty roster.

In an interview with Panay News, WVSU President Dr. Joselito Villaruiz confirmed that the first lady will be part of the faculty and added that she chose the university since it is located in her father’s hometown in Jaro, Leyte.

The student council aired their dismay and said that the first lady’s involvement with the university will only fuel outrage in the university.

They called on the administration and co-students to heed their plea and bar Marcos from teaching at WVSU.

“Ang panawagan ng mga mag-aaral ngayon ay katiyakan ng isang #LigtasNaBalikEskwela, konkretong mga plano sa muling pagbubukas ng pamantasan at taong panuruan. Tutulan ang pagkuha kay Ginang Araneta-Marcos bilang part-time na miyembro ng kagawaran ng WVSU College of Law!” the student council said.

The statement was signed by 19 College of Law students and activist groups in WVSU.

An online petition was also launched by the students to widen their campaign: https://forms.gle/zpv65zXw4SGVvQm9A
