THE DEPARTMENT of Transportation brought its White Beep Card Caravan to De La Salle University  in Taft Avenue, Manila, allowing students to conveniently obtain their white beep cards.

White beep cards automatically grant a 50 percent fare discount on the MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 lines.

According to the DOTr, the initiative is part of the government’s efforts to make commuting easier and more affordable.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the government has made it more convenient for students to avail of the white beep cards.

“Pinadali pa natin ang pagkuha ng white beep cards ng mga students, gayundin para sa mga seniors at people with disabilities o PWDs. Mismong sa mga schools na ipo-proseso ang pagkuha ng beep cards para mas mabilis at agad nilang mapakinabangan ang 50 percent discount,” he said.

Senior citizens and PWDs are also entitled to a 50 percent fare discount on every train ride.

About 360 students, 40 senior citizens, and 40 PWDs are expected to be served during the two-day DLSU White Beep Card Caravan, which runs until 5 p.m. on Friday.

The caravan will continue in other schools in the coming weeks.
