VISAYAS STATE U MEDICAL FRONTLINERS GET VACCINE JABS
MEDICAL frontliners of the Visayas State University have received their first shot of the AstraZeneca Covid19 vaccine, the university announced.
“The first batch included nine medical frontliners from the University Services for Health, Emergency, and Rescue,” it said.
“VSU resident physicians Dr. Elwin Jay Yu and Dr. Merry Christ’l Guinocor along with university dentist Dr. Maria Belen J. Buzon led the USHER staff for the vaccination,” it added.
The second dose will be administered to all of the USHER personnel in two months.
Yu thanked the local and national governments for prioritizing medical frontliners.
“When we battled the Covid19 pandemic in its first year, we were geared with minimum protection by only using face masks, ensuring social distancing, and frequent hand washing. But now that we are vaccinated, we hope that we may be able to serve our constituents with more efficiency and confidence because we know that we are protected,” Yu said.
He added that only a few of their staff showed signs of dizziness minutes after getting vaccinated.
Nurse Zarlin Jecel Compedio said getting immunized was the right thing to do.
“The vaccine doesn’t make us invincible from the coronavirus, but I still grabbed this opportunity because I’m always at risk of being exposed to the virus,” Compedio said.
