USTP EYEING TO ESTABLISH CAMPUS IN BARANGAY LUMBIA

/ 12 September 2021

THE UNIVERSITY of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines is set to establish a campus in Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro.

School members, barangay officials, and Cagayan de Oro 1st District Representative Rolando Uy were the ones who strongly pushed for the establishment of the new campus.

House Bill 9653, which Uy sponsored, is currently subject to deliberation, but was recently approved by the Committee on Higher and Technical Education in the House of Representatives.

The university said the construction of the campus will be a good move for Indigenous People in the area as they will be the ones to benefit from the project.

Once established, the campus will offer Agriculture Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Science in Information System, and some short-term technical and vocational courses.

“Students from the hinterland barangays (especially) the indigenous people living in the area can benefit (from) the quality education the university offers with the establishment of the campus,” USTP said in a statement.
