UST STUDENTS SHOWCASE TOURISM AND HERITAGE INITIATIVES IN ISABELA
THE UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas-College of Tourism and Hospitality Management recently held Pagtanaw Echague, Isabela, an immersive week-long program spearheaded by its research and extension arm, Sentro Turismo.
The program engaged 224 third-year BS Tourism Management students, bridging academic learning with practical applications in tourism management, community engagement, and heritage preservation.
“The Pagtanaw program was more than just an academic task; it was an integrated fieldwork and heritage forum designed to engage students in hands-on tourism development projects that benefit the local community of Echague, Isabela,” UST said.
Working in small groups, students documented historical and cultural sites, designed sustainable tourism development plans, and highlighted the unique tourism potential of Echague. These initiatives emphasized local culture and sustainability.
Key support came from the Municipal Government of Echague, led by Mayor Francis Faustino A. Dy, Representative Faustino “Inno” A. Dy V, and Cultural and Tourism Officer Louie Simbi.
Students also integrated conservation efforts into their tourism plans, ensuring future visitors respect Echague’s rich history while contributing to its economic growth.
“This initiative not only provided practical insights into tourism management but also prepared students to become leaders in sustainable tourism, equipped with the knowledge and passion to promote responsible travel and cultural preservation,” UST said.
“As the partnership among UST CTHM, Sentro Turismo, and the Municipal Government of Echague continues to grow, Pagtanaw provides a model for future projects that integrate education, community development, and tourism sustainability,” it added.
