/ 17 May 2023

STUDENTS from the University of Santo Tomas were the champions in the Investment Portfolio Competition organized by the Philippine Stock Exchange.

Third year BS Business Administration major in Financial Management students Karl Gerard C. Auson, Mark Jansen Cardona and Alexis Zeta bested other teams in the two-stage contest.

They were mentored by Associate Prof. Elizabeth Vivien Magbanta, who served as their adviser, and Instructors Roland Billy Bascon and lEdgar Lay, who served as their coaches.

The competition’s first stage required participants to prepare equity research for a publicly traded Philippine company.

In the second stage, the participants were asked to construct a hypothetical investment portfolio amounting to P1,000,000, with an optimal weighting of 3-5 stocks currently being traded at the Philippine Stock Exchange.

These two outputs were presented and defended. For the second stage, the output included an overview of the stock selected, fund allocation, risk management and forecasted returns, UST said.

From a pool of 21 competing teams in the first stage, three advanced to the second stage.
