/ 4 February 2024

THE Research Center for Social Sciences and Education of the University of Santo Tomas will receive an Outstanding Institution Award  from the National Research Council of the Philippines.

UST said the NRCP approved Council Resolution 2024-06 to grant RCSSED the “Outstanding Institution Award (Cluster 1)” for the year 2023.

A letter from NRCP dated February 1, 2024 states that the award “is given to outstanding institutions in recognition of their dedicated support and/or significant contribution to the growth and development of basic sciences, humanities, and the arts in the Philippines.”

The criteria for NRCP’s OIA include:

  • Publications in refereed and reputable journals (50 percent);
  • External linkages and extension services, including support to policy formulation (20 percent);
  • Research or service awards and recognitions received (15 percent); and
  • Number of undergraduate and graduate students trained or number of personnel trained (15 percent).

 NRCP will give the award during its Annual Scientific Conference and General Assembly on March 12, 2024, at the Philippine International Convention Center.

 RCSSED becomes the third UST research center to win this NRCP award, after the Research Center for the Natural and Applied Sciences and the Research Center for Culture, Arts, and Humanities in 2015 and 2021, respectively.
