UST ALUMNUS NAMED COMMISSIONER OF NAT’L SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT COMMISSION
ATTY. Dwight Ramos, president of the University of Santo Tomas Alumni Association, Inc., has been sworn in as Commissioner of the National Solid Waste Management Commission.
Beginning his three-year term, Ramos will represent the private sector in overseeing the implementation of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act and the Extended Producers Responsibility law.
Ramos brings valuable expertise to the commission, with extensive experience in nongovernmental organizations advocating solid waste management, recycling, and resource recovery.
He emphasized the importance of segregation at source by all waste generators to support carbon neutrality and sustainability initiatives, aiming for a circular economy and a zero-waste future.
He also called for a mindset shift from “Not in My Backyard” to “Now in My Backyard,” urging individuals to take personal responsibility for their waste.
The UST alumnus encouraged Thomasians to embrace sustainable lifestyles, echoing Pope Francis’ Laudato Sí encyclical on caring for the planet.
“Environmental responsibility begins at home and in workplaces,” Ramos stressed, underscoring the need for immediate action to secure a healthier planet for future generations.
