UST ALUMNA RECEIVES FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE AWARD

/ 6 October 2023

AN alumna of the University of Santo Tomas was awarded the prestigious Florence Nightingale Award.

Filipina nurse Janina Singson-Galangga was recognized for her exemplary service, exceptional devotion, and pioneering spirit in caring for her patients.

Galanggan is one of the 12 recipients in the US in the Titan Division.

She worked at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center and also at a military hospital in Saudi Arabia, the school said.

“Sometime in 2021, Galangga flew to Hampton, Virginia and filled in a nursing post at DeVita Kidney Care Center, where she was elevated to the position of clinical manager after five months,” UST said.

The International Committee of the Red Cross awards the Florence Nightingale Medal bi-annually to exceptionally qualified nurses and voluntary nursing aides who distinguished themselves in time of peace or war by:

• Exceptional courage and devotion to the wounded, sick or disabled or to civilian victims of a conflict or disaster
• Exemplary services or a creative and pioneering spirit in the areas of public health or nursing education

The Medal is the highest international distinction a nurse can receive.
