USC RESEARCHERS SHINE IN DOH-ORGANIZED VISUAL ABSTRACT CONTEST

/ 10 September 2023

RESEARCHERS from the University of San Carlos in Cebu won an award in Visual Abstract for Allied Health Professional competition organized by the Department of Health.

The team bagged second place for its study “Detecting the Impacts of Humidity, Rainfall, Temperature and Season on Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika Viruses in Aedes albopictus from Selected Cebu City Sites.”

Citing the DOH, the contest is a visual summary of the most important points or findings in a research paper to provide readers a quick overview of a research in an ‘eye-catching, engaging, graphical way combining text and images, not just a simple text-only abstract of a research article.’

USC’s entry was led by Mosquito Research Laboratory of USC Department of Biology program leader Dr. Frances Edillo.

Other researchers include Rhoniel Ryan Ymbong, Anthoddiemn Olin Navarro, Maureen Mathilde Cabahug, and Kristilynn Saavedrea.

Themed “Towards Excellence and Innovation in Research,” the competition took place during the 6th DOH Central Visayas Center for Health Development Regional Research Congress.

It aims to further encourage research initiatives and enhance regional collaboration in the field of research development and management.
