USC LAW STUDENTS WIN TOP AWARDS IN OSG MOOT COURT COMPETITION

/ 6 September 2025

FOURTH-YEAR  law students from the University of San Carlos (USC) School of Law and Governance bagged top honors in the 2025 Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) Legal Internship Program Moot Court Competition, winning both the Best Memorandum for Petitioner and Best Memorandum for Respondent awards.

The awardees were Mel Joseph Castro and Meg Lourdes Gerona, members of Team Vamfyre.

Solicitor General Darlene Marie Berberabe presented the awards during the program’s graduation rites, recognizing the team’s outstanding performance.

This year’s moot problem revolved around complex procedural and constitutional issues arising from the recently ratified “Konektadong Pinoy Act” (Senate Bill No. 2699), passed by Congress on June 9, 2025.

Among the four participating teams, Team Vamfyre’s dual memorandums earned the highest marks from a panel of seasoned judges and OSG solicitors, cementing their distinction as the top-performing group.

Castro, who captained the USC team, also served as chief writer of the USC Debate and Moot Team, which earlier won the Best Combined Memorials award in the 2025 Global Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

The OSG-LIP is a highly competitive seven-week internship program that annually accepts only 60 of the country’s most outstanding junior and senior law students.
