USC GRADUATE NAMED BEST PRESENTER AT NAT’L CONFERENCE

A GRADUATE student from the Science and Mathematics Education Department of the University of San Carlos was named the Best Presenter at the 9th National Research Conference in Science and Mathematics.

Dr. Margarito Reyes, Jr., was recognized in Category E for his research “Design, Implementation and Evaluation of Hybrid Inquiry-based Teaching and Learning Sequence on Optics.”

The achievement marks the third consecutive year that USC SMEd has been recognized for outstanding research, according to the university.

Dr. Nelson Rosaroso guided Reyes in his research.

Aside from Reyes’ study, USC fielded 12 scholars, consisting of 11 Master’s and one Ph.D. student who presented their studies during oral technical presentations.

Meanwhile, Dr. Enriqueta D. Reston, Dr. Marilou R. Gallos, and Diane A. Honoridez, members of the SMEd graduate faculty and staff, played essential roles as conference judge, plenary speaker, and assistant moderator, respectively.

The USC delegation was led by the Dean of the School of Education and project director Dr. Rolando Obiedo.

Carrying a theme “Promoting STEM Education Research for Sustainable Development,” the national research conference brought together graduate and postgraduate scholars from 16 prestigious universities nationwide.

It was organized by the Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institute through the Capacity Building Program in Science and Mathematics Education and Science and Technology Regional Alliance of Universities for National Development.
