AN ALUMNUS and official from the University of San Carlos in Cebu City was among the recipient of the ‘People of the Year 2024’ given by the People Asia.

Eugene Acevedo, a member of the University’s Board of Trustees, was the Philippine banker included in the recognition.

Dubbed “The Consummate Banker,” Acevedo is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation.

“Acevedo played an important role in making banking accessible and relevant to millions of Filipinos, especially those in unbanked and underserved segments of the Philippines,” USC said.

“Under his leadership, RCBC has been recognized as the country’s Best Bank for Digital Solutions for four consecutive years. It is also the first Philippine bank to divest from coal towards cleaner energy alternatives,” it added.

On top of being a banker, Acevedo has been actively involved in shaping the USC community through scholarship grants, a smart classroom donation, and leadership functions.

In October 2022, he and his wife Dr. Cenia Natividad Lucas Acevedo donated P2-M which was used to build a smart classroom and provide physics scholarships under the Research, Infrastructure, Scholarship, and Endowment campaign.
