UPV TEAM RANKS THIRD IN NAT’L CHEMICAL ENGINEERING QUIZ BOWL
A TEAM from the University of the Philippines Visayas placed third in the APCChE National Chemical Engineering Quiz Bowl held recently in Pasay City.
UP School of Technology Chemical Engineering Quiz Bee Team was composed of Aaron Paul Infante, Ram Nikko Delegero, Angelo Bala-od and John Timothy Barrera.
They were mentored by Engineers John Salvador Ricacho, John Loui Tadia and Jeraldine Calangi.
“After a rough start during the first round, the team gained momentum and made a comeback by scoring successive points and overtaking 11 other competing universities,” UPV said.
The quiz bee featured different chemical engineering core subjects such as ChE Calculations, Transport Phenomena (Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer, and Momentum Transfer/Fluid Mechanics), Separation Processes, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Plant and Equipment Design, Instrumentation and Process Control, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical, Process Industries, and Chemical Engineering Trivia.
Allied courses such as Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Engineering Economy, and Materials Science and Engineering, were also covered during the contest.
Fourteen universities joined the competition. The De Le Salle University clinched first place, while the University of the Philippines Diliman placed second.
