UPV PROFS HELP PUBLISH REPORT ON SMALL-SCALE FISHERIES
THREE professors from the University of the Philippines-Visayas helped publish a report on the contributions and impacts of small-scale fisheries.
College of Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Alice Joan Ferrer, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Harold Monteclaro and Dr. Wilfredo Campos contributed to the nine-chapter report “Illuminating Hidden Harvests – The contributions of small-scale fisheries to sustainable development.”
“Ferrer particularly contributed to the chapter titled ‘Towards gender inclusivity and equality in small-scale fisheries,’” UPV said.
“She is one of the 29 gender advisors from 21 countries who contributed to the said chapter,” it added.
Dr. Sarah Harper from the University of Victoria in Canada and Dr. Danika Kiebler of James Cook University in Australia wrote the chapter.
The global study was co-published by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Duke University, and WorldFish.
It provides information that quantifies and improves understanding of the crucial role of small-scale fisheries in the areas of food security and nutrition, sustainable livelihoods, poverty eradication and healthy ecosystems. It also examines gender equality as well as the nature and scope of governance in small-scale fisheries.
