UPV PROF JOINS SPRING MEETING OF JSFS
AN ASSISTANT professor from the University of the Philippines Visayas presented a paper in the 2024 Japan Society of Fisheries Science Spring Meeting held last month.
Engr. Joemel Sumbing, also a Balik-Phd Program grantee, discussed his paper titled “Marine Milkfish (Chanos chanos) Cage Stocking Density Estimation Using Index of Suitable Location with Acid Volatile Sulfides Criteria Through Mathematical Modeling and Simulation.”
The paper aims to estimate the milkfish stocking density “to prevent high pollution on the seabed that leads to hypoxia resulting to fish kills.”
“The participation of Dr. Sumbing in the meeting solidifies the engagement of UPV in the international conference in the field of fisheries modeling and coastal engineering,” the university said. “The said participation was funded by the Balik PhD Program of the University of the Philippines.”
The forum was organized by JSFS, a non-profit charity that promotes fisheries science.
The 2024 Spring Meeting, with the theme “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Fisheries Sciences,” features the developments in fisheries science through presentations and discussions.
