/ 11 December 2024

AN OFFICIAL of the University of the Philippines Visayas was re-elected vice chairperson of the Governing Council on Postgraduate Programme on Tropical Fisheries with International Linkage during its 15th meeting at Hokkaido University, Japan.

Prof. Dr. Harold Monteclaro, Dean of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, was first elected as vice chairperson in November 2019.

The ILP Governing Council oversees its curriculum and the selection of subjects for the MS Fisheries program.

During the meeting, representatives from eight member institutions discussed updates on program implementation and elected new officers, with Prof. Dr. Munechika Ishizaki of Kagoshima University appointed as chairperson.

“Composed of members from participating postgraduate schools, the ILP Governing Council oversees the effective implementation of the ILP curriculum to produce excellent graduates. Students from member schools admitted to any MS Fisheries program may apply for admission to the ILP,” UPV said.

“UPV-CFOS, Sam Ratulangi University, Kagoshima University, and Kasetsart University were the ILP founding members. The program began admitting students in 2015,” it added.

This year, Sharolen Leyson, a UPV-CFOS MS Fisheries (Aquaculture) student, received a Certificate of Completion for the program. Additionally, two CFOS graduate students, Nielvin Cansejo and Annie Louise Piñaloza, participated in the ILP exchange program at National Chiayi University in Taiwan and Kagoshima University in Japan, respectively.

Established in 2014, the ILP is a collaborative alliance of fishery-related postgraduate schools from seven Asian countries, including UPV-CFOS, aimed at providing globally competitive education in tropical and subtropical fisheries.
