UPOU UNVEILS GUIDELINES FOR AI USE IN ACADEME
THE University of the Philippines Open University has released its guidelines for the use of Artificial Intelligence for academic purposes.
UPOU said on its website that teachers can use AU to “support the attainment of program or course outcomes, such as to enhance students’ understanding and facilitate more effective learning activities.”
The university also warned its constituents that they should not use AI for harmful and illegal purposes, as they will monitor the development and trends in the technology.
“Teachers should also declare to their students the extent of AI use allowed or disallowed in learning activities, facilitating learning, and grading or assessing students’ submissions,” UPOU said.
“Students, on the other hand, must declare and properly cite AI-generated content, avoid plagiarism when using AI, and disclose to respondents the use of AI in cases of data collection for their coursework,” it added.
The university will conduct training sessions, educational resources, and other technologies to help its constituents use “AI for teaching and learning properly and ethically.”
The said guidelines will take effect by the second term, UPOU said.
