A PROFESSOR from the University of the Philippines Los Baños received the Gold Award in the Non-Rotarian category of the MC Rotary Star of Excellence Award from the Rotary Club of Alaminos Downtown in Laguna.

Professor Emeritus Macrina Tamayo-Zafaralla was recognized for being the proponent of Pitsong-Manok Amulungin Biopark and Siway River Biopark in Barangay San Gregorio in Alaminos town of Laguna.

The university said Zafaralla conceptualized the Biopark Strategy and the UPLB Aquatic Macrophyte Bioabsorption System.

The AMB was designed to help restore water quality using bamboo and native aquatic plants such as water hyacinth. It has been operational in bioparks in Tanay, Rizal and Lipa, Batangas.

“We also wave our cheers to Dra. Macrina Tamayo-Zafaralla for bringing the first Gold Award for Non-Rotarian Category,” the Rotary Club said.

“You will always be our inspiration in providing environmental projects to care, protect, rehabilitate and restore our rivers in the Municipality of Alaminos, Laguna,” it added.
