UP VISAYAS STUDENT AMONG GRANTEES OF 2023 QCSHORTS FILM FESTIVAL
A STUDENT from the University of the Philippines Visayas was among the grantees of the 2023 QCShorts organized by the QCinema International Film Festival.
The entry of Myra Angeline Soriaso, a third year BA in Communication and Media Studies major, bested 95 submissions nationwide. Her first narrative short film was titled “A Catholic School Girl.”
“The film delves into the sexual awakening of a teenage girl in a Catholic school,” UPV said.
“The script was developed under the CMS 174 Scriptwriting class of the Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences, UP Visayas,” it added.
Soriaso will be awarded P350,000 for the short production of the short film. Her film’s final output will be shown during the QC Independent Film Festival 2023.
She will be mentored by filmmakers Antoinette Jadaone, Martika Ramirez Escobar, Arden Rod Condez, Sonny Calvento, and Sheron Dayoc.
Producer Tin Velasco will take charge of the production.
Last year, the same short film won at the Globe Studios/Anima GoWatch Film Lab Grant and was awarded P200,000.
In 2021, Soriaso and her friends created a documentary short film “Panambi.” It was selected at the prestigious Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava, Czech Republic in 2022.
