THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines-Visayas has taken a significant step in addressing its technological and digital innovation needs by establishing the Digital Innovation Center.

The DIC was formed through Memorandum No. CCC 2023-05-021 dated May 16, 2023 issued by the Office of the Chancellor.

It was approved by the UP Board of Regents during its 1371st meeting last June 9, 2022.

The center aims to address the existing and emerging technological and digital innovation requirements of UPV. It will also serve as the information technology organization of the university.

“DIC will function to formulate and endorse digital innovation plans and strategies; recommend best practices; implement approved technology and digital innovation programs; ensure the implementation of digital innovation and information and communications technology-related policies; and provide technical assistance,” UPV said.

“It will also organize capacity-building activities; conduct research and development; and provide extension services on technology innovations to the academe and private and public institutions, in collaboration with other units,” it added.

The DIC will be headed by Asst. Prof. Rhea Subong-Espina from the College of Management, who has been appointed as its director.

Subong-Espina will assume her role from May 1 to October 31, 2023.

The Data and Information Systems Program, previously headed by Subong-Espina, will be integrated into the DIC.
