UP PRESIDENT PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR DEPED REFORMS
UNIVERSITY of the Philippines President Angelo Jimenez has pledged his support for the Department of Education in implementing crucial reforms.
Jimenez expressed this commitment during a testimonial dinner hosted by UP in honor of Education Secretary Sonny Angara on August 28.
The event also served as a platform to discuss and emphasize the importance of interventions aimed at improving the nation’s education system.
Various UP officials, alumni, and government representatives were present at the dinner to extend their congratulations to Angara in his new role as DepEd chief.
UP Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Leo Cubillan delivered the opening remarks. Several other prominent figures also shared their messages, including Jed Eva III, Chair of the NowheretogobutUP Foundation; Atty. Jun Santos, a UP College of Law alumnus representing Angara’s class; and UP College of Law Dean Darlene Marie Berberabe.
Other notable attendees included Atty. Danilo Concepcion, former UP President; Dr. Cynthia Rose Bautista, a member of the Advisory Council of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) Standing Committee on Higher Education & Teacher Education and Development, and former UP Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Emerlinda Roman, UP Professor Emeritus and former UP President; Congressman Roman Romulo, Chair of the House Committee on Basic Education and Co-Chairperson of EDCOM 2; retired Supreme Court Justice Francis Jardeleza; House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez; and Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero.
