UP OPENS DOCTORATE PROGRAM IN EDUCATION IN ILOILO
THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Diliman College of Education has partnered with UP Visayas to make teachers’ training more accessible in the Visayas region.
For the first time, the UPD College of Education will hold doctorate extension classes in UP Iloilo City next academic year.
“UP has always been looking for ways to expand and democratize access to its academic programs,” UP President Danilo Concepcion said.
“These classes would help UP navigate the next normal – not a return to pre-pandemic UP life, but not just an extension of current UP life,” he added.
The university is working to improve its education program to broaden and strengthen its teacher education mandate in the Western Visayas Region.
“The Ph.D. program of UP College of Education in UPV Iloilo is a renaissance of the vision of our predecessors to provide access and bring closer the UP Teacher Education brand to the different regions of the country,” Jerome T. Buenviaje, Dean of UPD College of Education, said.
Philip Ian Padilla, UPV vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, said the new progress will capacitate the UPV Teaching Training Program and enable more faculty members and Master of Education alumni to pursue a UP-branded graduate education.
Meanwhile, UPV Chancellor Clement Camposano stressed that UPV must address the needs of the education sector to exercise leadership as the national university.
The UPD College of Education offers courses in Educational Administration, Chemistry Education, Curriculum Studies, Guidance, Language Education, Mathematics Education, Reading Education, Research and Evaluation, Social Studies Education, and Special Education.
