UP LAW STUDENTS SHINE IN INT’L MOOT COURT COMPETITION
STUDENTS from the College of Law of the University of the Philippines recently won the National Rounds of the 2021 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
It marked the fourth consecutive year UP Law students emerged as national champions in the competition.
The UP Law Jessup team is composed of Camille Angela Cruz, Julia Inez Blando, Peter Joshua Ortega, Andrea Jasmine Yu, and Rissa Nicole Lumba.
“The team bagged several awards in the Competition, including the Best Respondent Memorial Award and the Best Overall Memorial,” said the UP Law college in a statement.
“They also won individual awards for their excellent performance in the preliminary rounds. Ms. Camille Angela Cruz won the Best Oralist award, while Ms. Andrea Yu and Mr. Peter Ortega were awarded the 4th and 8th Best Oralist Awards respectively,” it added.
Professor Rommel Casis mentored the team as faculty adviser and coach, with Dr. Lee Edson Yarcia, Abelardo Hernandez, and Leslie Diane Torres as assistant coaches.
The team was also assisted by the UP Law Center Information and Publications Division during the competition.
The students will now be competing in the International Rounds, which will be held virtually due to the pandemic.
The Jessup Moot Court Competition is the biggest and most prestigious moot court competition in the world.
This year, the National Rounds of the competition was sponsored by Divina Law, and was held virtually from February 22-26, with teams participating from all over the Philippines.
