UP FACULTY MEMBER WINS CARLOS PALANCA AWARDS
A FACULTY member of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños won in two categories in the 70th Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards.
Dr. Layeta P. Bucoy’s full-length play entitled, “Orgullo Compound” won first prize in the English Division while her one-act play titled “Dance of the Foolies” placed second in the Filipino division.
These are the sixth and seventh Palanca awards Bucoy has received.
Bucoy said that the plays are a component of her dissertation on integrating drama and scientific research papers without treating drama as a handmaiden of science or misrepresenting science.
“Both plays would not have been written without the help of the [UPLB NanoLab Services] through its then director, Dr. Milagros Peralta of the Institute of Chemistry,” she said.
Bucoy will be officially awarded by the CPMA in a ceremony on November 30 in Makati City.
