/ 16 February 2021

A STUDENT from the University of the Philippines-Cebu was one of the awardees of the Hammond House International Literary Prize.

Christian Andrei Nuez Laplap won the award under the Editors’ Choice category for his short story titled “The Oddity That Is Them.”

His work will be published in the literary prize’s annual anthology of short stories.

Now in its fifth year, the annual writing competition was sponsored by the University Centre Grimsby in the United Kingdom. It attracted entries from 27 countries.

“This year’s competition theme, ‘SURVIVAL’, is intended to inspire, not restrict, suggesting anything from an environmental crisis, a zombie apocalypse, a broken relationship, or just a bad day at the office,” Hamond House Publishing said.

The winners will receive cash prizes and shortlisted entries in the short story and poetry categories will be published worldwide.

Laplap was also an Awardee of Excellence in the World Youth Essay Competition 2018.

Since 2013, he has written for several local and international websites.
