UP ALUMNUS APPOINTED AS UP REGENT
PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte appointed University of the Philippines alumnus Dr. Gregorio Pastorfide to the UP Board of Regents.
Pastorfide took his oath of office before UP President Danilo Concepcion on March 10.
An obstetrician-gynecologist, Pastorfide is regarded as a pioneer of in vitro fertilization in the Philippines.
He completed an internship at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Maryland before pursuing his education at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. After graduating in 1972, he worked as a teaching and research fellow at Harvard Medical School.
When he returned to the Philippines, he worked at the UPCM, rising through the ranks from instructor to clinical assistant professor, associate professor, and finally full professor.
From 1998 to 2001, he was the chairman of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department.
The unit won the Silver Cup for Outstanding Clinical Science Department from the UP Medical Foundation in 2000.
Pastorfide received the Distinguished Alumnus award from the UP Medical Alumni Society in 2012.
