DEBATERS from the University of Mindanao won several awards in Indonesia’s Asian English Olympics.

They are Ma. Veronica Silayan and Ian Angelo Sarto.

Silayan was named Novice Best Speaker and sixth Best Speaker in the Open Category of the debate competition.

On the other hand, Sarto was awarded ninth Best Speaker in the same category.

Candice Lleses, who served as the students’ coach, was declared the breaking adjudicator and semi-final adjudicator.

The Asian English Olympics (AEO) is an annual competition held by Bina Nusantara English Club of the BINUS University in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In 2024, AEO attracted hundreds of delegates from Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea, and China to compete in eight fields, including Speech, Debate, Radio Drama, Short Story Writing, Newscasting, Storytelling, Spelling Bee, and Scrabble.
