UNIVERSITY OF MINDANAO AXES GUARD BEHIND BODY SHAMING OF STUDENT

/ 27 December 2022

THE UNIVERSITY of Mindanao sacked the security guard who body-shamed one of its students inside the campus.

UM made the move after the incident was posted and went viral on social media.

The student shared her experience on Facebook. She claimed that she was insulted by the guard of UM’s Matina campus who told her to change her outfit and cover her belly.

“Kalaki-laki ng bilbil mo ‘di ka pa nahiya baba mo ‘yan,” the guard allegedly said.

In a statement, UM said that it does not tolerate body-shaming.

“The University of Mindanao does not condone body-shaming against anyone by anybody. This is against the university’s core values as it adheres to safe spaces conducive to learning environment,” UM said.

“We will act with quick resolve on this issue and we assure our students and employees the university does not tolerate such and similar misbehavior. For our collective guidance!” it added.
