UNIVERSITIES, COLLEGES BATTLE IN PHILIPPINE ARMY’S CYBER DEFENSE EXERCISE TRON 2025

A TOTAL of 18 cyber teams from various top Philippine universities competed for supremacy in the Philippine Army’s Cyber Defense Exercise TRON 2025, held at the Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, from March 8 to March 9, 2025.

The University of the Philippines Diliman team dominated the cyber competition, with Holy Angel University from Pampanga and Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) from Iligan City taking second and third place, respectively.

Other schools that participated in the two-day competition included AMA University, City of Malabon University, De La Salle Araneta University, Divine Mercy Colleges Foundation Institute, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Immaculada Concepcion College, Metro Manila College, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Quezon City University, Saint Claire College of Caloocan, Technological University of the Philippines, University of Makati, and University of Santo Tomas.

“Beyond the awards and recognition, I want to commend all the participants. To the students and their mentors who accepted the challenge and gave their best, your participation signifies more than just competition. It represents your commitment to strengthening the nation’s cyber security posture,” Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr. said, speaking on behalf of Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido.

“Whatever path you take, remember that cyber security is a shared responsibility. Each one of us has a role to play in protecting our nation’s digital infrastructure,” he added.

The Army Chief of Staff also emphasized that cyber security is not only a technical challenge but a national security imperative. He urged the participating teams to continue honing their skills, as they are critical in “securing the country’s digital battlefields.”
