UE STUDENT GROUP WANTS TENTATIVE LIST OF SCHOLARS RELEASED

/ 25 July 2021

A STUDENT group at University of the East-Manila requested the college deans to immediately release the tentative list of qualified scholars for the 1st semester of Academic Year 2021-2022.

University Student Council said releasing the initial list of scholars before the enrollment will greatly help students who are vying for scholarship grant.

“Students are already aware that the list that will be released is not yet official but they just want to know if there is still a chance or hope for them to be one of the grantees based on their grades and the population in the previous semester. We have been facing adversities that tested our physical strength and mental well-being,” USC said in a letter sent to college deans.

Since school officials stood firm to impose new policies regarding scholarship grants, USC said the move is the least thing the university could offer to all the students.

“The tentative list would not cost the university anything but will be very helpful to the students who can no longer have decent rest thinking about their scholarships,” the student body said.

The group also asked the deans to exercise understanding and compassion to the students, saying it hoped they are with and after interest of students and for the betterment of the whole university.

“We are hoping that this letter will reach your good office and grant our request as soon as possible, so that the students will be prepared whatever will be the outcome,” USC said.

Despite oppositions from students, UE President Esther Garcia earlier maintained the imposition of a seven percent limit on the number of learners who will be granted scholarship is very much compliant and way above the requirement set by law.

Garcia reiterated there was nothing arbitrary or illegal in the disqualification of students who applied for scholarship.
