UE STUDENT COUNCIL SLAMS HIKE IN MISCELLANEOUS FEES

/ 17 July 2021

THE UNIVERSITY Central Student Council slammed the University of the East for the 17.55 percent increase in miscellaneous fees for Academic Year 2021-2022.

It said that the school will collect P3,939.32 Internet/technology fee, P1,273.81 energy fee, and P938.93 for health service fee.

“This is on top of the administration’s recent anti-student policies (scholarship revocation, shutting down of courses) and casual dismissal of the students’ well-deserved grades,” USC President Raymond Cayabyab said.

He vowed to continue fighting for students’ rights.

“We will make sure that our voices will be heard and if neglected, we will continue to shout even louder for our rights. Once again, we are being left behind by this institution,” Cayabyab said.

The Central Student Council, on the other hand, urged school officials to stop collecting downpayment from scholars.

UE President Esther Garcia said that all candidates for academic scholarships will be required to pay P10,500 upon enrollment.

But CSC President Saida Manap pointed out that scholars should not be required to pay because they rely on their scholarships to continue their education.

Manap also asked UE to release the list of scholars before the enrollment period.

“Students have a hard time anticipating whether they are included in the list before they decide to enroll. It is a matter of urgency as they have the right to be informed before jumping into a decision, as it will affect their financial security,” she said.
