UE RULES OUT ACADEMIC BREAK FOR 2ND SEMESTER OF AY 2021-2022

/ 19 February 2022

THE UNIVERSITY of the East will no longer grant academic breaks for the second semester of Academic Year 2021-2022, its president, Ester Garcia, said on Friday.

A report by the school’s publication The Dawn said that the decision was due to the one-week delay in the opening of classes.

“We cannot have those breaks anymore because of the one-week delay in start of classes,” Garcia said.

“We need at least 51 hours for a 3-unit course. The delay of one week used up 3 class hours for a 3-unit course. Sorry about this. That was the reason I could not immediately agree to Mayor Isko,” she added.

Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso declared a one-week health break from January 14 to 21 to protect the students and teachers amid the surge in Covid19 cases.

The university only suspended classes from Jan. 17 to 21.

Garcia said that the delay in the opening of classes also affected the salary of some school personnel.
