UE REJECTS STUDENTS’ APPEAL TO MOVE ACADEMIC BREAK

/ 25 October 2022

THE UNIVERSITY of the East has denied the appeal of students to move the academic break schedule for the midterm period.

In a Facebook post, the University Student Council said that UE President Ester Garcia rejected the request “as they are obliged to follow the minimum number of class days as mandated by Commission on Higher Education.”

“It was asserted that they are obliged to follow the minimum number of class days as mandated by CHED, hence rejecting the proposal,” the USC said.

Last week, the student body asked university officials to move the October 31 schedule of the academic break to November 4.

The university set the midterm academic break for Oct. 31, Nov. 3 and 5.

The student council said that since Oct. 31 was declared as a non-special working holiday by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., revising the dates for academic break would be beneficial for the whole UE community.
