/ 5 November 2022

CIVIL Engineering students of the University of the East Caloocan campus were victorious in the MIDAS Academic Festival.

The inter-school event, the first convention of MIDAS academic users in the Philippines, was hosted by MIDAS IT Philippines.

Students from 29 universities and colleges nationwide participated.

UE alumnus Mark Levi Espino was the champion in the MIDAS Speed Modeling in Building Category.

He bested his peers from 13 academic institutions in demonstrating their ability to model structures using MIDAS software within a specific time frame.

He was awarded P12,000 cash prize and a certificate.

Meanwhile, Espino and his batchmate Janna Bañares and Israel Jeshurun Sevilla; as well as fourth year student Neil Stephen Manzo presented their paper on “Pamagwalay: Proposed Design of Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for Brgy. Apalit, Floridablanca, Pampanga”.

Their collective effort won them P15,000 cash prize, individual certificates and a congratulatory plaque.

UE Caloocan BSCE seniors Joe Nicol Intal and Mark Cabral took part in the event’s quiz bee, which saw a proverbial battle of brains while learning functions of the MIDAS software.

The event was a means to showcase MIDAS Civil, which is “a Bridge Design and Analysis software that combines powerful pre-and post-processing features with an extremely fast solver, which makes bridge modeling and analysis simple, quick, and effective.”
