UA&P TO HOLD URBAN HUMANITIES SUMMER SCHOOL

/ 16 January 2024

THE College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Asia and the Pacific will hold the 2024 Urban Humanities Summer School in Baguio City.

The summer school will immerse students in the settings, material culture, and living heritage that lend character to and enliven the UNESCO Creative City of Baguio.

It will be held from May 20 to June 7, 2024.

“Known as the summer capital of the Philippines, Baguio City is a diverse, multi-ethnic city with a complex history, emerging from its history as a settlement of Ibaloi families, an American colonial hill station, and a settlement of Japanese and European nationalities before the Second World War,” the school said.

“Participants of the summer school will visit selected study sites within the city, interact with residents, and gain a humanist understanding of the city through place-based memory archiving and sensory ethnography,” it added.

Arts Department chairperson Dr. Laya Boquiren-Gonzales Chairperson and History Department chairperson Mary Josefti Nito will serve as the course instructors.

Non-UA&P participants will earn a certificate of completion which may be credited for a 3-unit course on urban humanities.

The deadline for registration is January 31, 2024.
