TUP ADMIN REJECTS CALLS FOR MID-SEM BREAK
THE TECHNOLOGICAL University of the Philippines has rejected calls for an academic break, student representatives said after a meeting with the school’s administration.
The TUP University Student Government pushed for a break from distance learning to give students and faculty hit by the typhoon time to recover.
“Despite these calls, the academic break was still not granted as only the Student Regent pushed for this matter among the participants in yesterday’s[Friday] meeting,” the TUP USG said.
“Moreover, a plan for Academic Consolidation Week (ACW) was discussed instead, in replacement for Academic Break,” it added.
A consolidation week is a non-teaching week in the middle of a semester to allow students to finish all assignments and activities.
The student representatives said guidelines for the academic consolidation week will be released by University President Jesus Rodrigo Torres.
“We are appalled and saddened by this update, however, the fight continues and we remain firm with our stand for a compassionate education through safeguarding the mental health and welfare of the students especially at times like this,” the TUP USG said.
