NURSING students of Tarlac State University won in the first Regional Battle of the Nightingales organized by the Sacred Heart Hospital of Malolos, Inc. and Central Luzon Doctors’ Hospital in Tarlac City.

Lean Gelomy Raiz, Bryan Gopez, and Andrea Gelle Gemicah Turay bested other participating teams from colleges and universities in Central Luzon to win second place in the inter-school nursing quiz bowl.

Nursing Department chairperson Regie Jimenez served as the group’s coach, while College of Science dean Prof. Mary and other faculty members served as their mentor.

“Coming into the competition, we weren’t really expecting much since most of the participants are in their fourth year already,” Raiz said.

“And during the quiz bowl proper, more than half ng mga tanong are derived from the subjects na hindi pa rin namin na-take. Gratefully, we were mentored sufficiently during the review period kaya still, we had a background knowledge sa ibang questions,” she added.

The group received a cash prize of P12,000.

The inaugural quiz competition was held “to highlight the importance of nursing in the community and test the knowledge of BS Nursing students.”
