SLSU INKS PACT WITH PHILVOCS FOR THE USE OF ‘REDAS’
THE Southern Leyte State University inked a partnership with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on using the Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS).
SLSU said that this is for the hazard, impact assessment, and exposure database development of REDAS, which aims to map seismic hazards within minutes.
“The REDAS is a software developed by PHIVOLCS that aims to produce seismic hazard and risk maps minutes after the occurrence of a potentially damaging earthquake and can be used to conduct multi-hazard and risk assessments at the provincial and municipal levels,” SLSU said on Facebook.
“It can also be used as a tool for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into the local development planning process, contingency planning, and emergency planning,” it added.
The two institutions will commit to sharing resources, expertise, facilities, and information for the project.
A Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the two parties, which the SLSU publicized on Tuesday.
