SLSU ALLOWS STUDENTS TO DRESS ACCORDING TO THEIR SEXUAL ORIENTATION
THE SOUTHERN Luzon State University has allowed its students to dress based on their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression for face-to-face classes.
The school’s Office of Student Affairs and Services said that while certain dress codes are in place, students can dress in accordance with their identities.
This came after students decried the rules posted by the SLSU-OSAS on Facebook on how students should groom themselves.
The rules prohibit male students from sporting long hair and ponytail or dying their hair.
The office has since apologized r and said that it has been working with the Gender and Development office to come up with more gender-affirmative policies.
“These decades-old rules may no longer appropriate and responsive to the call of the present times. These are based on the norms set by specific professions that has been customarily followed,” SLSU OSAS said in a statement.
“We value diversity, inclusivity, and equality among all genders. All students and other stakeholders are all accepted and tolerated to dress up and act in accordance to their lived identities,” it added.
