THE SILLIMAN University is now accepting applications for the Dr. Mariano Lao Educational and Emergency Support Fund for School Year 2020-2021.

The foundation will provide assistance to ‘financially-challenged’  students, as well as active and retired personnel amid the Covid19 pandemic.

“Established in the period of the Covid19 pandemic, the Dr. Mariano Lao Educational and Emergency Support Fund is an emergency short term, non-interest and non-collateralized loan program for enrolled students and active and retired personnel of Silliman University,” the school said.

To be eligible for the scholarship grant, student applicants must have a superior academic performance and should meet the criteria of minimum household annual income.

Meanwhile, personnel of the university who wish to apply for the assistance must be full-time employees for at least two years, retired individuals who served SU for at least 20 years with children or grandchildren currently enrolled in SU, and should not have been convicted in any disciplinary case.

“The approval of a loan application is based on need and priority shall always be given to those who need it the most such as but not limited to a single parent family, or having two or more members of the family who are studying,” the university explained.

“The compelling need must fall into the following categories to merit the loan including school fees and other school related expenses, medical expenses incurred in an emergency illness that is not covered by the insurance company or HMO, experienced a direct impact of a natural calamity that caused damage to property and source of income, and sudden death of an immediate family member,” it added.
