FOR SUPPORTING health programs, the Silliman University was given the Director’s Award from the Department of Health.
The university was recognized for being a “key partner in supporting and contributing to health reforms and addressing social determinants for health, especially during this Covid19 pandemic.”
SU President Dr. Betty Cernol McCann and SU Government Affairs Center director Dr. Michele Naranjo received the award during the 2022 Local Health Systems Awards ceremony held last week.
“SU, through the SUGA Center, is an academic partner of DOH Region 7 in implementing the Municipal Leadership and Governance Program, which aims to equip mayors and municipal health officers with skills and knowledge to improve healthcare systems in their communities,” the school said.
“In December 2021, SUGA Center concluded the training of municipal leaders in Bohol and Negros Oriental under the MLGP,” it added.
The DOH Central Visayas for Health Development hosted the ceremony with the theme “Rising Amidst Challenges towards Universal Health Care.”
Through the 2022 Local Health Systems Awards, the DOH Central Visayas Center for Health Development aims to recognize the efforts, support and exemplary practices of stakeholders from local government units, non-government organizations, the academe, and the private sector who contributed to the achievement of the health sector’s goals and objectives.
