AN ALUMNUS of the Silliman University has set up a scholarship grant for the school’s Mass Communications students.

The Ruth B. Serate Scholarship Grant will be offered starting the first semester of Academic Year 2021-2022.

Ted Regencia, a news journalist of Al Jazeera who covers Asia and the Middle East, named the scholarship after the former head of the SU Scholarship and Aid Division.

“This is my own little way of remembering her,” Regencia explained.

“She opened the door for me to dream bigger,” he added.

The Serate Scholarship Grant aims to help deserving but financially challenged Mass Communication students complete their program. It hopes to help students who demonstrated strong potential for journalism work.

With the scholarship, Regencia said, “I’m kind of paying it forward.”
