/ 3 April 2024

THE Polytechnic University of the Philippines partnered with the International Association of Women in Radio & Television Philippines.

Through the College of Communication, a memorandum of agreement was signed between PUP and IAWART in celebration of National Women’s Month in March.

“The collaboration is anticipated to have a profound impact on campus journalism and various digital platforms, fostering an environment that encourages women’s participation and empowerment in media,” PUP said.

President of IAWRT-Philippines Chapter Lynda Garcia and PUP Vice President for Research, Extension, and Development Dr. Anna Ruby Gapasin jointly expressed their commitment to the partnership.

Garcia and Gapasin emphasized its role in backing initiatives like the Butterfly Campaign and Digital Safe House Project, fostering a safer media space for women.

For his part, Gender and Development Office Director Jerome Permejo emphasized the partnership’s importance in advancing gender equality in media and journalism.

In the Philippines, IAWRT is a chapter or branch of the global organization that operates within the country.

It shares the same goals and objectives as the international body, working to empower women in the Philippine media industry, promote gender equality, and address issues related to women’s rights in broadcasting and television.
