PUP RELEASES GUIDELINES ON FLEXIBLE LEARNING

/ 1 October 2020

THE POLYTECHNIC  University of the Philippines has finally released the guidelines for its flexible learning scheme for the school year 2020-2021, days after students bombarded the university on social media.

The guidelines were laid down six days before the start of classes on October 5.

The university will employ its  learning scheme called Flexible Technology-Enhanced Learning

Based on the advisory released by the PUP Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, students who have no internet connection at home will be placed under the correspondence delivery mode or modular learning.

On the other hand, those who have internet connection will be under online learning.

The grading system will also be modified. Attendance, recitation, and oral reports will no longer be part of the class standing for both online and correspondence modes.

The advisory also noted that teachers cannot require their students under online mode to join video conferences.

Once a student has chosen his or her preferred mode of learning, switching will not be allowed.

Meanwhile, a local college council urged the PUP administration to provide proper orientation to prevent confusion among students.

“There is still no assurance for those who wish to proceed with offline learning or correspondence that they will receive modules. On the other hand, there are still no proper preparation and orientation for the synchronous classes. With that, we urge the PUP administration to provide an orientation and posted guidelines to prevent confusion among the students,” the PUP College of Communication Student Council said on Facebook.
