PUP EARNS 3-YEAR COA RECOGNITION FOR INCLUSIVE PROGRAMS
THE POLYTECHNIC University of the Philippines has received recognition from the Commission on Audit for three consecutive years (2022–2024) for programs supporting senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
COA reports highlighted the university’s compliance with national laws, noting adherence to Republic Act No. 11639 in 2022 and substantial compliance with Section 36 of Republic Act No. 11936 in 2023.
Among its initiatives, PUP organized a 2022 webinar with the Techie Senior Citizens community on elderly rights, drawing about 400 participants.
In 2023, the university expanded its advocacy through seminars and capability-building activities, including the PUP Diversity and Inclusion Talks and a Deaf Awareness Seminar, promoting collaboration and understanding on campus.
Accessibility upgrades were also recognized, such as ramps, elevators, PWD-friendly restrooms, clearer signage, and braille buttons in elevators.
To extend its reach, PUP strengthened its social media presence, ensuring wider access to information for seniors and PWDs.
Through its Gender Equity, Diversity, and Social Inclusivity Office, the university also continued wellness activities like Pickleball and Zumba sessions for seniors, promoting health and community participation.
“These initiatives align with Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities),” PUP said in a statement.
