PUP ALUMNUS NAMED 2025 GLOBAL FILIPINO ARCHITECT

/ 26 August 2025

A POLYTECHNIC  University of the Philippines  alumnus has been named the 2025 Global Filipino Architect by the United Architects of the Philippines – Dubai Chapter.

Architect Royal Pineda was recognized for championing a modern Filipino design ethos that integrates cultural heritage, sustainability, and contemporary innovation.

His works, noted for their clean lines, use of native materials, and sensitivity to local contexts, have earned acclaim both locally and internationally.

PUP lauded Pineda as “a leading voice in redefining Filipino architecture,” saying his work aligns national identity with global standards while advancing Sustainable Development Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities.

“Pineda’s accomplishments stand as a powerful example of the kind of excellence fostered at PUP — one that resonates far beyond the walls of the University,” the school said.

The recognition is especially meaningful for the PUP community as Pineda designed the university’s Gymnasium in Sta. Mesa, a landmark reflecting his commitment to nation-building through functional yet culturally rooted design.
