VIRAL ngayon sa social media ang bidyo ng isang propesor sa Western Institute of Technology sa Iloilo habang pinangangaralan ang isa niyang estudyante na panay ‘walang signal’ ang dahilan sa hindi maipaliwanag na limang sunod-sunod na beses na pagliban.

Binidyohan ng kaklase ang isang bahagi ng pabatid ni Prof. Engr. Inocencio Dadivas sa kaniyang Auxiliary Machinery I online class na pinagsasabihan si Alyas Toto, estudyante, na ‘umakyat sa puno ng niyog’ para magkaroon ng signal.

Gasgas na umano ang dahilan ng mga bata na ‘mahina ang internet’ para lamang makaiwas sa pinagagawa ng mga propesor.

Sunod-sunod ang komento ng mga estudyante sa Facebook na nagsasabing ‘inconsiderate’ ang propesor sa pinagdaraanan ng mga mag-aaral. Kung nahihirapan umano ang guro ay mas nahihirapan ang mga estudyante sa online set-up.

Subalit depensa ni Dadivas, ginagampanan lamang niya ang kaniyang tungkuling gabayan ang mga estudyante sa panahon ng pandemya.

Sarkastiko umano ang sinabi niya kay Alyas Toto dala ng pagkadismaya sa mababa nitong marka. Gusto rin niyang makahabol ito sa klase kahit na lalagpas na siya sa katanggap-tanggap na bilang ng pagliban alinsunod sa patakaran ng WIT.

“My concern is for the students, that they can pass the subject. They know something about the topic. That is the concern of the instructor/professor. I’ve been teaching in WIT for 18 years. All my students are professionals. They are already chief engineer, 2nd engineer…,” wika ni Dadivas.

Naglabas naman ng pahayag ang Dekano ng WIT College of Maritime Engineering na si Engr. Mark Anthony Elupre sa Aksyon Radyo IloIlo, kabig sa pagtatanggol sa viral na propesor.

Bungad niya, “The viral video regarding our faculty member who uttered seemingly offending words to his online students is an isolated case and must not be treated as what it seems to be based on what you simply heard and saw.”

“As I review the video clip I can sense that it is not full, the conversation prior to the start of the video clip cannot be ascertained which brings me to the idea that there is a stress issue on both sides,” giit ni Elupre sa pagsasabing malisosyo ang putol na bidyo.

“On the other hand, every faculty has his own management or teaching style on how to impose discipline and sustain the seriousness of students towards their lessons. I believe the teacher is trying to make an impression, to let not only the involved student who uploaded the video clip, but the entire class that the teacher means business as far as online class is concerned.”

Kagaya ni Dadivas, ipinababatid ng dekano na hindi katanggap-tanggap ang paulit-ulit na sisi sa internet kung bakit higit isang buwan nang hindi pumapasok ang bata.

Sabi niya, “He is just trying to create an ambiance that sooner or later no one is good enough to make “no signal, lousy signal, no load, no internet access” as a flimsy excuse of being late to register online or being absent in the online class.”
