PMMA AND NATIONAL MARITIME POLYTECHNIC TIE UP FOR RESEARCH

/ 23 February 2023

THE PHILIPPINE Merchant Marine Academy partnered with the National Maritime Polytechnic to further strengthen maritime research in the country.

Representatives from the PMMA led by Department of Research, Development and Extension Director Victoria Paraggua visited Tacloban City-based NMP to exchange best practices and look at possible areas for collaboration.

“We are here today to learn from NMP’s successful concepts and methods on how they do their research. As both NMP and PMMA are government-owned institutions, it is important that we collaborate and work together to make the Philippines a better research country,” Paraggua said.

The panel engaged in thorough discussions of the methods and techniques used by NMP to carry out its marine research and activities.

Paraggua also presented the details of PMMA’s multi-role training vessel project, which aims to address the shortage of shipboard training opportunities for maritime students.

PMMA offered the use of the vessel to NMP faculty members and its seafarer-trainees.
