PLM STUDENTS GROUP SUGGESTS ALTERNATIVE GRADING SYSTEM

/ 2 May 2021

A PAMANTASAN ng Lungsod ng Maynila student alliance called for the modification of the school’s grading system over the weekend.

The Bukluran Student Alliance on Facebook called on administration to heed its demand to help students cope with the implementation of distance learning.

It proposed that students should not be given a failing mark, students with failing status shall be given an ‘INC’ standing instead, and will be given a year to comply with the requirement, alternative activities, and extension on the suspension of university and college-specific retention policies, among others.

It noted the effects of the pandemic on the students’ well-being.

“Based on the overall impression on assessing the first semester run of the online classes, students struggled to cope with the demands of virtual learning in exhausting all possible means available to comply with the class requirements, notwithstanding the fact that they too have domestic challenges in their households. While some have managed to meet the demands of online learning, others were left with no option but to stop indefinitely,” the group said on Facebook.

“We stand firm that academic learning must not be at the expense of the students’ mental and physical health, and that the welfare of the students should be held in the highest regard,” it added.

The alliance noted it already forwarded its recommendation to the Supreme Student Council for further support.
